Even though you wouldn’t believe it by looking outside, spring is really not that far away! I know – eternal optimist.!
Having worked in fashion for most of my life, be it retail or wholesale sales, the timeline never changes. Your favorite boutiques start receiving new transitional styles, on the sales floor, as early as January. Being a true-Montrealer, it feels like the store window displays are mocking us with their light-weight skirts & crop tops. Ha!
As my wanderlust starts to take over, I check-in my Airbnb app, praying that perhaps prices went down. Nope. Now in vacay mood, I find myself wondering what is worth investing in for this spring season. Here is my recap:
You’re seeing romantic vibes, juxtaposed against the utilitarian dominance. Either can be worked into your wardrobe, depending on how you style it.
I’ll start be defining some of the bohemian, flowery trends. Here you can see elements of ballerina influence – from ballet type slip-on’s, satin textured fabrics, tulle, chiffon, and full volume skirts paired with minimalistic bodysuits. The notion of boudoir also creeps in on the runways, think lace, silk, feminist. The corset has made a huge impact, being incorporated into many collections for the spring. Bra exposure is also huge, paired with another trend – the over-sized blazer.

Over-sized blazer how I love, love, love thee. So versatile. This season can be sported as mentioned above, over the satin & lace bra and high-waisted denim. So cute. The 90’s heel is something I would accessorize to finish the look. By 90’s heel, we’re talking skinny and high, pointed toe. The exaggerated blazer can also be worn with the lingerie-inspired slip dresses or as a suiting, baggy yet tailored fit.

Topshop relaxed over sized 80s blazer in cream
A little less sexy but definitely still innocent; we are seeing a resurgence of eyelet, crochets and cotton-based knits détail dentelle. Tassels & Fringe would be added design details elements in this bohemian, with Scandinavian inspo looks and trends. appliqué and embroidery.

Denim is seeing a node to the 90’, with baggier, looser silhouettes featuring boot cut, flare and relaxed fit denim. Pleats are also detailed, creating a rounded and voluminous waistline, and more of a tapered leg. Dominating every cat all was the incorporation of the cargo pocket.

Embellishments for the Spring ‘23 Season include tulle, sequins, chain mail, liquid metallic is a big trend. Transparency was seen on every runway but I honestly don’t feel I will be buying Into this trend…unless tulle is involved! To recap some other styling details include Flannel shirts transition from wool & acrylic to cotton blends. Tube dresses and off the shoulder exposure are also making an appearance. Dress lengths are between midi length as already previewed these past couple seasons but what is new is the now popular knee length dress. Key lime/neon yellow & Cobalt are definitely a colour that everyone must incorporate into their wardrobe. Even if just an accessory detail. Prints are abstract, blurred or water-colour inspired. As well as smaller, ditzy floral prints. Accessory of the season – SUPER large tot bags!
