How to Clean Your Make-Up Brushes

DIY – How to clean your make-up brushes!

What you will need:

  1. Tear-Free shampoo
  2. Glass/jug hot water
  3. Vinegar
  4. 3-4 Paper towels
  5. Hair-trimming scissors (optional)

In a wide, high glass jar, fill 3/4 high with very hot water.  I emphasis the glass jar, as the bacteria potential is limited comparative to it’s plastic counter-parts.  I always wash my hands before manipukating the brushes to make sure I do not contaminate them with bacteria.  Add 1 squeeze baby shampoo and vinegar.  Place brushes, brisles down, in the jar and mix around a few times  Leave in mixure for 5 minutes, then bring to sink and rinse brushes under fresh water stream.  I do this brush-by-brush and then squeeze out excess water.  I will then use a clean towel or paper towl to absorb whatever residual water there is and place brushes on paper towel to dry over night.  If you have double-sided brushes, just flip the brushes and repeat steps.

For the Beauty Blender and sponges, the process is slightly longer.  They are delicate and need to be handled with care.  If you have a silicone mitt or pad, it helps but, if not, that’s ok.  I will create a fresh bowl, with baby shapoo and vinegar, for my sponges after having completed my brushes.  After letting sponges sit in concoction for 5 minutes, I rinse in fresh water, squeeze and repeat, several times, until water runs clear.  Squeeze out excess water and allow to dry overnight on paper towel or clean towel.

Enjoy!
